Ukkonen AWG

Hi Alan, any updates on the complete NFS measurements of the Ukkonen AWG? Is the speaker design finished or still fine tuning here and there? Thanks.

Hi @Matias

The pair that were intended to go for measurement at Warkwyn have been at Australian HiFi for review. It's taken longer than expected. Review is out in their next edition. We received them back last week but they have been comandeered for another purpose.

We have long lead times on the woofers from Purifi, so we have been reserving our stock for customers, hence we haven't sent a different pair yet for measurement.

The design is finished. Our own measurements, whilst not made using a Klippel NFS, are very high quality. More than good enough to be confident about the design. The Klippel data is really more about marketing. Obviously important, but not as high a priority as getting Ukkonens out the door to customers. Hence the testing has taken a bit of a back seat.

Yes the Klippel data may indicate some very minor XO changes, but these would be tiny corrections to make the graphs look ideal rather than any real audible change

We are getting great feedback from customers about the Ukkonen:

The sound is lovely, remarkable detail and amazing resolution in a complex sound field. Rich, moving LF that I'm looking forward to drilling into.

The speakers are visually just gorgeous Alan, beautiful fraternal twins. Just spent a few hours last night listening to a range of popular music with my wife and one of our daughters, who has an ear. We were both thoroughly enchanted and revelled in exploring just what the artists/engineers intended
.

You're doing wonderful work Alan. I'm delighted to have the best sound I think I've ever heard.

cheers

Alan

Hi Alan, and Matias,

I confirm on every point, Alan. The idea of choosing the RAL color is very good, the wood finish is so amazing. They look so beautiful. Tasmanian Blackwood...
The wave guide on the twitter Is very well made and pushs the highs in a good timing with basses, the details of beryllium is impressiv no harschness. With two speakers I've got the very well focus sound (also possible to monitor with them...)I like so much, with also the feeling to have a very big speaker in front of me. The hability of the speaker from purify PTT8 to roll down very low is impressiv. In stereo XLR with a good Network Player and the Monoblocks 9040 eingentakt, hypex powerboard...you reached the amazing balanced sound, so good in everything. Design is amazing because the bass is so deep with this contained size, so much space in sound. I suppose the great components you put in help also. Great work...
It's a long time I searched the Great Speaker of me. No I have it. I smile on every music test...
Fair price also.
Great for everyone.

Bonjour de France.

Hey Alan, just curious. I think I read that the Ukkonen might come with outrigger feet. Do they? Did this ever come to light? If so, can we see pics? :)

lovely. thanks! another question, Alan. Some of us in smaller rooms are forced to listen mid/nearfield. Would you say there's a minimum distance to listen to the Ukkonen to allow everything to mesh together?

Hi @Stereo Skunk

The soundfield from a speaker does indeed change with distance. A general rule if thumb is 3x largest baffle dimension. On a floorstander we dont count the entire height. I would say 2m distance is about right. Any closer and you will start to get noticeable changes in tonality/frequency response.

And now you have the award 2025!!!! for them and P801! Great!!!
Sound & Image Magazine. Congratulations.
it is the first time that I choose a speaker only by listening a video on smartphone (because of immediate identification of clarity and bass) and knowing the parts in it.
