Preamp with Tone Controls

Hi March Audio: I read that you have a pre-amplifier in the works. I hope it is designed with tone controls. I could use something like that now. I just listen to CD's and I would say that 25% of those recordings are too bright. I would love to dial it back a bit but my old Classe' Audio just passes it all straight through.

I guess I could go the computer route with AudioLense or JRiver but I like to keep things simple.

Firstly to say I do agree with the use of tone controls. Due to the fact that there are no standards in audio recording studios, every recording sounds different. Film and TV production picture quality /setup adhere to standards which translate right through to replay equipment in the home. So you can obtain a true representation of what the director intended. However, this is not true with audio. Random production choices monitored on random speakers in random acoustic environments.

Our first pre amp (Feb26) will not have tone controls. pre 2 to be released late 26 may do, but unconfirmed. To be honest, because so many people use streaming, from local disk or from internet services, I think having it built into the playback software is a preferred option. It is also far more flexible and sophisticated.

I use Roon. It has lots of options for tailoring the sound.

As @Matias says, the ADI is an option. I have used the DAC/ADC version and it has very good technical and subjective performance. You might find it limited interns of analogue inputs. One thing I would say is that it's menu system is user hostile.
 
Good morning Alan. Firstly, I hope the Bristol hifi show is a success for you and opens up new markets and sales avenues.

Without giving away any commercial secrets, just wondering will there be any sound quality differences between the pre 1 and pre 2, or just different functions, such as tone controls (possibly)?
