New Kuoro Speaker

Hi Alan,
Great news the Kuoro! Congratulations again. Is it smaller in size than the Ukkonen?
It will be very interesting to have the feedback, because for me it’s hard to get over the SB Satori… béryllium so smooth and precise. The purifi is made of what?
The white paper from Purifi states that the tweeter dome is Aluminium, which gave the best results during testing/ designing.

No, wont go as low, but the Ukkonen is exceptional and unique in this respect.

Iirc the Ukkonen uses dual(?) Purifi passive radiators. the ultimate without using much larger drivers that would need much larger boxes, and even then probably only at very high SPL

A slim slot port I’d think won’t go as deep - though if(?) the drivers are the same in the upcoming model, the bass above the frequencies where the PR/s and port generate output should be identical. If other things are equal (?)

is that correct?

The Ukkonen uses a slot port and 8" woofer, no PRs. We used PRs on the Sointuva because the port length would be difficult to implement in that small a box. It has a 6.5" woofer

The Kuoro used 2x 6.5" woofers. There are a whole bunch of parameters that change between the Sointuva and Kuoro.

So, aside from possible differences in efficiency, which speaker produces deeper bass? Kuro with its 2x6.5" woofers or Ukkonen with its single 8" driver.

Which has greater power handling?

Hi

The Ukkonen still goes deeper. Similar power handling.

The Kuoro is still under development. We are talking with Purifi about waveguide optimisation.

I would caution everyone from drawing any conclusions about sound quality from recordings made in this way.

They are simply nothing like the real sound. Microphones do not "hear" in the same way as two ears and a brain. The mics pick up all the room reflections and sound whereas your brain will filter much of this. This is especially the case with omni microphones as appear to have been used here.

Ever experienced the cocktail party effect? Its a really noisy room, music and conversations, yet you can focus on one person's voice and hear what they are saying. If you tried this with a microphone you would really struggle to hear the conversation.

Hence these recordings sound terrible. Yes the speaker names are mixed up.
Hi Alan,
By clicking on the speaker link a .TXT is downloaded with no view on your speakers.
What about the new baby Kuoro? 🤪

Will the Ukkonen be upgraded to the Purifi tweeter? Its directivity is awesome.
Possibly, however it will probably require a larger waveguide to match the directivity and lower crossover point of the larger woofer. In discussions with Purifi.

I would add that whilst it seems like an obvious thing to do to fit the new tweeter to the Sointuva and Ukkonen, customers really do love their current sound. It is a convincing argument to say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

@Alan March Congrats on the Kuoro release, the Sointuva & Ukkonen were looking kinda lonely there for a while ;), I just thought to mention that under the "News" thread there is a duplicate post of the Kuoro speaker release announcement, also the Kuoro product page mentions under the Cabinet section "The Sointuva is custom manufactured to order so the cabinets can be finished to your exact specification." it should be corrected to Kuoro. I don't know how I missed it but it mentions Sointuva right above the price as well as it being a "stand mount" speaker, a couple of Sointuva leftovers. ;)

@Alan March Have you compared the two speakers? If so, what do you observe in the bass/midrange/treble regions of the spectrum with music? I realize movies may prefer the Ukkonen for its lower bass extension.

BTW, the Kuro lists for US$6,590 ... just round it up to US$6,600 to cure my obsession with seeing clean whole numbers:giggle:!
