@JasonWells Then… they start sounding like the picture in my avatar…

OK - but it would be a bit stupid to anoint admins that were not loyal to a fault.

Audio Science Review Tests and Amplifier protection systems

To be fair it may not be his (Amir’s) behaviour as much as just a wholesale dog pile scrum of the group writ large. But since it is his forum, I would have expected some moderation of the ad hominem attacks by others. Ok… ^This^ is hard to cogently argue against. It certainly does not help...

Audio Science Review Tests and Amplifier protection systems

Does “our amps”, mean exclusively the March Audio amps? Or… Is it all the Purifi variations have it… as Purifi built in the protection? I am assuming it is the later case… and that they know what to do so they implemented it wholesale across their range.

Audio Science Review Tests and Amplifier protection systems

I was thinking I might have been banned, so from my perspective a locked thread is a decent outcome. Where are you when you are not visiting NY? I guess you run a VPN? I was temporarily banned a few weeks ago, and could not even view threads. And I need to pull off some biquad settings, so I...

Audio Science Review Tests and Amplifier protection systems

Which one is it @JasonWells ? Au or Amsterdamned? I attracted a ban a few weeks ago… I expected one on Audiogon, so I was a bit surprised it was on ASR. It was mostly a misunderstanding on language, but it was a shock.

Is there a pre-amplifier(control) on the horizon?

Noice! I didn’t think Maggys were a thing here. A friend has been through lots of amps trying to ones that power his, and I have gotten 2 sets of his left over amps. I am not sure a Pass would have enough grunt? You probably want the 400W version. I have an RME and am new to digital, and just...

Is there a pre-amplifier(control) on the horizon?

I assume you are up in Perth? I have not stumbled upon many similar minded people around here. The TI phono stages seem like they are a bit nuanced, and I have generally had a bit better results with dedicated phono stage… not hugely better. One if usually better off with a balanced phono...

Is there a pre-amplifier(control) on the horizon?

@Andrew - While I like the idea of a trans impedance (TI) phono, I have not used one, and they are a bit rare. I almost got one, but in the end I switched to a different brand of dual input phono stage. This might be better done as a daughter card with MM and… then MC or TI for the second side??

    Balanced Interconnects without a screen

There are worse preamps to use… (that one is a keeper.)

    Balanced Interconnects without a screen

I am not inclined to misrepresent myself as a prospective customer. If the fellow makes cables then he is probably as interested as they get in the subject. So if Warwick has the equipment, then I see no reason not to trust his input. The site did look like a typical magical cable website. What...

    Balanced Interconnects without a screen

Personally I would ask him to measure it. Pin 1 is usually the shield, pin 2 the +signal, and pin 3 the - signal. There is some capacitance between the pin 2 and pin 1, or pin 3 and pin 1. That would be the only thing that I can conjure up to cause a measurable difference, but the output...

    Balanced Interconnects without a screen

What speed? If the can on the cartridge was Nickel or steel it it different than some other material. It would more get the currents induced in the can. But the can is not inducing currents in the wires. It would be reactively responding to the fields, and not actively causing currents...

    Incompetent Internet Reviewers - Beware!

That maybe true, but saying it, is not helping in a marketing sense. and… if it all not true and provable, then it is even more certain not to help towards the greater end.

    Incompetent Internet Reviewers - Beware!

Well like COVID advice, I would suggest not hold your breath. He (Nuyes) has some mad skillz, good equipment, and a good writing style. And if he believes that he is right and honest, then maybe there was a third person involved or it suffered some shipping drama? It is basically the only...

    Incompetent Internet Reviewers - Beware!

In some cultures it’s important to save face... (but you’re not really leaving the fellow any way out.) I agree it would be difficult to torque the bolt it to spec with out a nut, so someone must have removed it. But the chain of custody seems is pretty short here… unless there was someone else...

Just working on the RME. I had computer noises coming out when the RCA analogue inputs and USB were connected. They went away when I hooked up RME XLR Outputs to the Preamp to help ground through the XLR Pin-1. The phono is pretty hummy with the RME in the rack… so I have some chin scratching...

Well I do not want to guess at motivations, and a few people have left (yourself included), so maybe you’re right. I generally try to only talk positively, or be silent…. So: Erin appears to make it a bit tough not to like him…. hence it seems like there is a disconnect between my perception and...

    Incompetent Internet Reviewers - Responses

I believe that to affect the system, one needs a stiffer spring to raise the resonant frequency. So it needs a thicker/stiffer basket, or a some other mechanism to either lower the excursion, which generally also raises the resonant frequency. (But it possibly could lower the amplitude at the...

…yeah…that was a bit depressing to see, and somewhat bizarre to behold. Erin’s work makes it easy to consider it worthy of my patreon support. Is there a recommended torque setting for Lars’ purifi woofers? I saw the tubular captive screw plugs that the capture the screws. They are probably a...
